‘Stacks’ in the Scottish Highlands and Islands are impressive, rugged and exciting geological features, such as The Old Man of Hoy and The Old Man of Stoer. Liquid deli Demijohn have created a far more palatable Highland ‘stack’ of their own, comprising two fine new single malt whiskies.
At the top of the stack is a 12 year old Linkwood Single Malt Whisky (61.3%). A relatively unknown malt from Elgin, Demijohn has a hogs head cask which was filled in 1998. With a pleasant trace of sherried fruit on the nose, its obvious strength at 61.3% does not produce the anticipated fire in the throat but rather a smooth, velvety malt with a pleasant after note of oak and roasted nuts.
On the bottom is a much richer malt – 18 year old Bunnahabhain Single Malt Whisky (46%) from Islay. Its unique taste of sweet honeyed nuts is delightfully smooth and a surprising move away from the traditional Islay peat smoke taste.
Demijohn is an original liquid deli which sources and sells unusual, artisan spirits, liqueurs, whiskies, oils and vinegars. With products such as Seville Orange Gin, Raspberry Vodka and Elderflower Vinegar they appeal to all those who love fine food and drink. They are sold from large glass demijohns and decanted into the reusable bottle of your choice and a personal message can be added for free.
The Highland & Island Malt Stack comprises two stacking 250ml Impilabile 250ml bottles and is priced at £70.75.
