The Oxford Bar (Bar)
8 Young Street, New Town, Edinburgh, EH2 4JB
“The Oxford is a living, breathing, blast from the past, from when pubs were a place people met for a pint and the 'craic'. I pop in to this pub everytime I visit Edinburgh but this last visit was the first time I met, Harry - the Licensee - together with Charlie - a regular. They engaged me in the craic and made me feel not only welcome but like one of the locals. AND gave me tips on where else to try. Home from home - and as long as I am able I will call in at The Oxford when I am in Auld Reekie.”

Calistoga Restaurant & Sideways Wines (Bar / Restaurant)

“Love this place. We visit often and have never been let down. The wines are outstanding value, the food's innovative and the staff are friendly without being intrusive. The place is a bit tricky to find as it's in a back lane. It's worth seeking out.”

Bar Napoli (Restaurant)
75 Hanover Street, New Town, Edinburgh, EH2 1EE
“Having waited over 20 minutes for chips and cheese, I was treated to the owner calling me an "a$$hole" in Italian to all of his staff for complaining, despite other people behind me in the queue having been served the exact same food before me. Unbelievably shocking customer service, an attitude which consisted of picking up our receipt and saying "you've only waited 15 minutes" and then throwing it on the ground... The food is fine if you can be bothered to wait for it, but I really wouldn't advise giving your custom to such a rude, unpleasant little man.”

Favorit (Bar / Restaurant)
19/20 Teviot Place, Old Town, Edinburgh, EH1 2QZ
“This Cafe / Bar increases their prices every year during the Festival, be advised. Also after 6pm they will only serve you drinks with food. Today after over 10 years loyal custom at Favorit cafe / bar, I an Edinburgh Local regular customer have been informed by the owner that anybody wishing to use Favorit during this years Festival 2012 must also buy food. I asked but what about the Edinburgh Locals who come nearly every night to enjoy a coffee, and was told even them. I informed the owner after 10 years custom I will not be back. I say "No To Rip Off Edinburgh"”

The Old Chain Pier Bar (Bar)
32 Trinity Crescent, Newhaven, Edinburgh, EH5 3ED
“I live in Newhaven and was looking forward to the Old Chain Pier re-opening. My husband and I went for tea tonight and it was dire. The first thing was disgusting sauce bottles which had not been cleaned for ages. We had a bottle of pretty poor wine (not cheap) and ordered fish and chips and steak pie. The fish was only OK. The chips (6 of them looked as if they had been cooked yesterday and resurrected) were awful. My husband's steak pie had flat pastry and only two pieces of meat in a watery gravy. The green beans were only just defrosted. There was so little to eat that I had to give my husband a piece of my fish. When the waiter came to clear the table he asked if we had enjoyed our meal and I told him that it was spectularly dire he just said good and went away. We were not asked if we wanted a dessert or coffee or anything. We paid out bill reluctantly and went home to have coffee. Given where this bar/restaurant is if they do not improve the food etc. It will go down the tubes and I am sorry about this.”

“Went to this bar on saturday night for a retirement party.
I like how there are smaller function rooms that join onto the main bar, great atmosphere and reasonably priced. The bar staff were pleasant and did not push us out when it was closing time, would go back again sometime.”

“We went for a last drink on 2/1/2012(middle aged couple with teenage son)
Our first visit and would go back. The barman was friendly and the drinks were fine. Only thing was it was a bit of a shocking experience for my son. He put his hand under the brass ornamental table attachment and found himself plugged into an old light socket. We found it amusing especially as he went back during telling us about it and did it again. No harm done.”

“Food is really good there these days, they have a new lunch special deal and I had the chicken and bacon ranch and a bowl of soup for £6.
Really decent sandwich and baguette and really decent price! Good footie atmosphere in the place (at least on the Sunday I was there). Not been in at night recently, but this is definately worth a visit for a cheap, cheerful and well made lunch.”
