The Raconteur
Stockbridge / Bar / Cuisine: Bar

Stockbridge - As Stockbridge's first cocktail bar (once known as The Old Dean Bar), this bar is solid proof that you don't need to venture into Edinburgh city centre to savour a proper beverage or have an amazing night. Their award-winning bartenders can concoct every cocktail on their exotic menu to absolute perfection. The most fascinating fact about this modern bar is that they have a tremendously impressive collection of bottles from around the world and from all throughout the 20th century. The Jazz Bar
Old Town / Bar /

Old Town - Jazz enthusiasts of Edinburgh, if you don't know this bar, go now! It's an order! 22 gigs per week, which means 22 chances to discover fantastic musical talent. In my opinion, the cover price is slim considering the quality of the performances. This basement bar could have come straight out of a film; expect jazzy decor, classy furnishing, dim lights and candles. The multitude of beers, wines and spirits make the experience that much more enjoyable. Food can also be ordered until 3am. Contact The Jazz Bar directly

Old Town / Bar /

Old Town - Just a short walk West of Grassmarket lies a 'Best Scottish Interior Design' award winning bar. Dragonfly is the ideal choice when I'm looking to escape the whole Grassmarket hype. The bar is open 12pm-1am everyday, so guests can enjoy a relaxing, pleasurable cocktail lounge environment at almost any time of the day (I wouldn't say Friday and Saturday nights are relaxing however). Though their assortment of cocktails is endless, staff can create on demand, so don't be shy to enquire. Contact Dragonfly directly

Tollcross / Bar / Cuisine: Bar

The waterside Cargo Bar is one of Edinburgh's best bars for functions and events; they're always celebrating something! Lunch, dinner and weekend brunch aren't as pricey as one would expect, considering the hip and trendy vibe this bar exudes. The modern and colourful interior always makes me want to stay for another delectable cocktail; and another. Best of all, Student Recommended Card holders get amazing offers on pints, wine, and meals. Plus, the vast terrace is right next to the Union Canal Contact Cargo directly

Bar Missoni
Old Town / Bar /

Old Town - No need to be a guest at the trendy Hotel Missoni to enjoy a few drinks at their modishly decorated bar. Though located in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town just off the Royal Mile, the modern, even futuristic interiors can make one forget about the bar's historical surroundings. This bar focuses mainly on cocktails, not so much on food, though the menu does provide a few tasty options. And wine drinkers won't be disappointed; I can safely say their wine selection is satisfyingly vast Contact Bar Missoni directly

Bramble Bar & Lounge
New Town / Bar /

New Town - This bar considers mixology to be an art form; a philosophy even: a delightful and refreshing cocktail is the key to happiness. The decor has a unique vintage side to it, and sometimes so do the tunes. Music is also a very important part of the experience, and every Friday and Saturday, their DJs do their best to cover a variety of genres. Can one ask for more when sipping a refined and skilfully concocted cocktail, in stylish surroundings with remarkable music? Edinburgh at its best. Contact Bramble Bar & Lounge directly

Image of Tigerlily, a Bar, Restaurant in New Town, Edinburgh

New Town / Bar / Restaurant / Cuisine: Modern British

New Town - 'An Edinburgh bar like no other' is what they say about themselves. This bar surrounds its guests with mirrors, chandeliers and swanky furnishing, making elegance and luxury the keys to success. Here's the occasion to slip on that Sex and the City dress that's been sitting in the back of the wardrobe for ages, and sip champagne at Hotel Tigerlily's shining shimmering George Street bar. The award-winning mixologists never let me down: their quality cocktails are always to my liking. Contact Tigerlily directly

Under The Stairs
Old Town / Bar / Restaurant / Cuisine: Brazilian

Old Town - With a name like 'Under the Stairs', one can imagine a dark gloomy bar in some underground shack, but the Under the Stairs I'm talking about is anything but murky. This tranquil bar constantly exhibits art and photography, giving artists a chance to expose their creations in a stylish Edinburgh location. Seasonally inspired cocktails are reasonably priced in comparison to most bars that made this list. A food menu is also available: the options are limited, but extensive in range. Wash Bar
Old Town / Bar / Cuisine: Bar

Old Town - Located on The Mound, one of Edinburgh's most famous central streets, this is my bar of choice when it comes to catching up with friends over a coffee or a glass of wine. However, it's also fantastic for partying the night away over the weekend. They're open from 11:30am everyday, giving locals and tourists the opportunity to take advantage of their Mound-side terrace at any time of the day. They also have an upstairs function room with bar staff, always available for free (!) hire. Contact Wash Bar directly

Image of Revolution, a Bar in Old Town, Edinburgh

Old Town / Bar / Cuisine: Bar

Old Town - The cocktail menu is endless, the wine list impressive, and the interior design classy, but not posh. This bar is on two floors, has three bars, and a club room for those who yearn to dance. A pizza menu is available until close as well! I don't know of any other bar in Edinburgh where I can relax in the lounge with a few drinks, then get up and dance, and then sit back down with a pizza and more drinks, all in one night. Revolution has indeed revolutionised the concept of partying. Contact Revolution directly
