Ryries Description

Ryries Bar is situated in the west end area of Edinburgh next to the Haymarket train station. It’s a traditional pub with an extensive beer, wine and whisky selection and serves food daily. It is popular with locals from the Haymarket area and tourists to the city. Food is served daily in the bar area until 6pm. The restaurant, La Stazione, is headed by chef Guliano Bonaria who prepares Italian cuisine featuring dishes such as scaloppini marsala, penne alla norma etc..

Ryries is a warm and welcoming traditional pub and restaurant steeped in history situated in central Edinburgh’s ‘West End’ on the corner next to Haymarket station.

This unique establishment, with an abundance of character offers friendly service, and is an ideal meeting place for local residents, tourists, shoppers and rugby fans.

Upon entering, the ambience of the room is enhanced by the long narrow bar with brass foot rail and half barrels, which decorate the gantry along with the brass whisky water taps highlighting the extensive range of whiskies on offer.

To the rear of the room the traditional small ‘snug’ area has been transformed into a comfortable 25 seat eating area, serving excellent and well priced bar meals.

Upstairs, the atmosphere is quite Italian, with a well proportioned’ La Stazione’ restaurant seating up to 80 persons, and is perfect for lunch or dinner and can be hired for private ‘nights out’ or parties. Live music – Thursday and Sunday nights.

“Wasn't impressed with this place. Crowded (not necessarily a problem) and smelly (which was). I have had to give 1 star for value for money and quality as after having been in for about 10 minutes my companion still hadn't been served at the bar, we ended up walking out rather than wasting any more time here. The only thing this place has going for it is it's proxmiity to Haymarket train station. Having said that, I'd recommend that you walk that little bit further and go to the Haymarket Bar.”

“A warm and welcoming bar. All te staff are friendly and very helpful. The new bar menu that has recently started is not far from perfect great idea how they have combined a sort of wannaburger and monstermash mbu to make there two signature dishes! And if the menu down stairs does not appeal to you, you can always nip upstairs to the Italian resturant. Recommend this bar to anyone. Thanks”
